  • FORGING

Forgings from GULFCO have the reputation of being of the highest quality. We have been meeting customer requirements over 79 years. Only the finest equipment is used to make GULFCO forgings, producing the dependable products demanded by modern day industry. Our 204,100 sq. ft. forge plant is equipped with the most advanced technology for the production of open die, die and rolled ring forgings.

GULFCO is capable of producing forgings weighing up to 36,000 lbs., depending on the size and shape of the product. These forgings can be in the form of shaped dies, discs, seamless rings, bushings, shafts and many others.

    ROLLED RINGS

A large part of our production is seamless rolled ring forgings to meet varied needs in the industry. GULFCO has made seamless rings for over 40 years and has developed a reputation for producing some of the finest rings in the industry. Our ring mills are designed for close tolerance rolling, thereby requiring less machining for removal of excessive metal in the final machine process.

We are capable of rolling rings up to 132" outside diameter with a length up to 48". Our ring mills are able to carry up to 20,000 lb forging weight, which allows us to meet our customer's maximum needs. Saddle rings are available up to 80" OD and 58" in length, weighing up to 36,000 lbs.

    MACHINING

GULFCO's ability to offer customers machined forgings puts us in a unique position in terms of service. As a full-service shop, we carry out a job to any degree of completion as required by the customer, unlike some forge shops that do not have machine capability.

With over 50 machine tools, GULFCO is capable of meeting any machine requirements of its customers and is able to machine up to 138" in diameter.

    HEAT TREATING

Making forgings is only part of our responsibility. We also must condition these forgings so they will conform to our customer's needs. Metallurgical control of each forging is extremely important in producing top quality products.

In 1985, after two years of research and study, GULFCO added a state of the art heat treat plant. This plant not only enables us to normalize and anneal our products, but also allows us to liquid quench and temper. By not depending on outside sources, we can process customer orders faster and with GULFCO quality assurance.

With computer aided historical data on each heat and type of steel, GULFCO is better able to select heat treat temperatures to achieve the properties required by the customer.

Metallurgical control of each forging is extremely important in producing top quality products. At GULFCO, we constantly evaluate, certify and test our heat treat facilities to insure our ability to meet exact customer's specifications.

    QUALITY ASSURANCE

Quality Assurance at GULFCO is top priority. We comply with all sections of the specification to produce a product that meets or exceeds all the customer's requirements.

When a product is shipped from GULFCO, the customer can be sure that it will meet the customer's needs. All required studies are performed on equipment and materials by our own metallurgical laboratory. If additional test is required, they are available through subcontracted services.

Our own metallurgical laboratory allows us to perform all required studies to assure the performance of the material used.

Our Metallurgical Department guides our Quality Control and Quality Assurance Programs. These programs have always qualified GULFCO in meeting customer quality assurance programs.

You might say when you specify "Quality Assurance", you are specifying "GULFCO Assurance", since our policy has always been to control and insure quality before the term "Quality Assurance" became popular.

From the time we receive an order and until it is shipped to the customer, we insure that all of the customer's requirements are met through the full production process.

    TESTING

To ensure forging quality, Gulfco has a complete on site testing laboratory for mechanical testing of material prior to being used in the forging process. By having our own laboratory, we are able to meet any test requirements our customer request. This ensures that "GULFCO QUALITY" in the end product will meet customer specifications.

Some of our testing capabilities are:
  • Tensile
  • Charpy Impact
  • Corrosion
  • Ultrasonic
  • Magnetic Particle
  • Liquid Penetrant

We write our own specifications for the procurement of steel so that our customer will receive the best quality material on the market. This allows the customer to not only purchase basic steel, but to be able to enhance the material to meet stringent specifications.

Some of the steel grades we carry in inventory are:

    SALES

GULFCO's sales department is very knowledgeable as to GULFCO's capabilities. Each customer is assigned to a sales person so a relationship with the customer and an understanding of that customer's needs and requirements is established. This allows the sales person to not only quote prices and receive the customers' order, but also to insure all the orders requirements, including delivery, are met.

With a computer aided quoting system, GULFCO can offer both quick and accurate quotations. This rapid response ability may be crucial to our customer receiving an order.

When a customer requests up to date information on an order, the sales person can reference our computer tracking system and give the customer the current status.
